Etymology Edit

From Persian هندوکش‎ ( hindūkuš, hendukoš ) . The origin and meaning of the name are uncertain. According to Ibn Battuta and popular etymology, it is interpreted as a compound of هندو‎ ( hendu ) + کش‎ ( koš- ) , which would mean “Hindu-slayer”. Some interpret it to be a corruption of هندو‎ ( hendu ) + کوه‎ ( koh- ) , which would mean “Mountains of the Indus / of India”.
