Need An Energetic Morning Buzz? Marijuana-Infused Coffee Pods Hit Store Shelves
Now comes Catapult, an infused coffee that comes conveniently packaged in Keurig-styled K-Cups handy for single-serve brews.
The coffee’s maker, Fairwinds Manufacturing, describes the blend as “a premium series of cannabis-infused coffee beans that feature local Northwest coffee roasters whom supply premium, freshly roasted coffee beans from coffee regions throughout the world.”
“They’ve been a hit,” Tedd Wetherbee, owner The Gallery pot shop in Tacoma, said of Fairwinds’ cannabis-infused coffee products. “People enjoy the novelty of it. As this market grows, people are looking for more and more products and more and more ways to enjoy their marijuana. Washington and coffee, Seattle and coffee go hand in hand, and the Fairwinds people came up with this idea that makes a lot of sense.”
Wetherbee said the Fairwinds infused coffees are the first and only coffee product he’s sold since opening — though he also carries a line of infused teas “so your normal evening chamomile tea will now come along with 10 milligrams of THC to come along with it.”
When the infused coffees were first added to The Gallery’s shelves, customers looked at them as a novelty item, Wetherbee said.
“Then as people gave it a try, more and more are being sold,” he added. “Is it our most popular edible? No, the brownies and truffles and all manners of cookies here are still more popular.”
The Gallery isn’t the only Washington shop enjoying the newfound variety in their edibles selection.
“I liken it to a Red Bull and vodka,” Jennifer Lanzador, sales manager at Seattle-based Uncle Ike’s Pot Shop, told Yahoo of the Fairwinds products. “I had more energy, but I still had the relaxation you get from cannabis.”
One last warning for the early adopters: “Note our pods will not work with pod machines that require electronic pod ID such as the Keurig 2.0.”Fairwinds boasts of the cannabis coffee experience on its website: “Marrying two complex plant products (coffee beans and cannabis) provides a tremendous and enjoyable experience to the consumer.” But they also warn against overconsumption: “This is no ordinary ‘cup of Joe’.”
