[UPDATE] DQ Accidentally Makes A Marijuana-Themed Birthday Cake After Customer Requests Moana
Update, 7/12/19, 10:55 p.m.: According to USA Today, not only did the mix-up in question happen at a Dairy Queen, but the employee responsible for it has also since been fired.
“It’s not funny to me,” Cassandra Walker told the outlet: “This is back-to-school time. I have two little girls here. I have a car that needs fixing.” She also said the process of making the cake was overseen by her manager, who raised no issues with the cake at the time. It was the Dairy Queen’s owner Al Autry who subsequently fired her, she said.
“This was a simple misunderstanding from the beginning,” Autry responded to USA:
Our cake decorator designed a cake based on what she thought she heard the customer order. When the customer picked it up and said it was not what she ordered, we immediately apologized for the error and offered to redesign it the way she originally intended. The customer said it was fine, paid for the cake and left.
The company hasn’t addressed Walker’s firing, nor has Davis, who originally posted about the cake error.
Original post, 7/11/19, 3:07 p.m.: Kensli Taylor Davis, 25, loves Moana. So naturally, her mom did what moms do best and tried to surprise her with a birthday cake inspired by the Disney flick. Emphasis on “tried” though, because there was a, uh, slight mix-up with the bakery. Instead, they wound up with a marijuana-themed cake.
On July 2, Davis posted the hilarious fail to Facebook. “So my mama called and ordered me a cake telling them how much I loved Moana. (Because I really do),” she wrote on social media. “Well needless to say these people thought she said marijuana 😂😂😂 That ice cream cake was still good though 🤷🏻♀️.”
The cake, which you can see below, is decorated with green and white frosting, a weed-inspired My Little Pony, and a giant pot leaf. So! Festive! The bakery included a “Happy 25th Birthday Kensli,” as well.
Davis’ post quickly went viral, racking up 13,000 likes and 13,000 shares. The internet is obsessed. “The pony’s red eyes are killing me lol,” one user commented. “I’m going to order one on purpose for someone know 😂😂,” another else added. Which, ya know, isn’t such a bad idea. And hey, depending on your locale you could even toss in a little Mary Jane. I don’t know, just a thought. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
