Steve enjoying Buenos Aires sunshine
I felt honoured to be invited by Argentinian Genesis tribute band Genetics to join them for their two memorial shows for their lead singer Nacho, who died tragically from an avalanche when skiing in Japan. I originally met the Genetics guys soon after Nacho’s death when I was last in Argentina playing with my own band. They invited Jo and me to a fabulous barbecue. We all hit it off immediately. Nacho’s wife and daughters were there too. One of the daughters Ciara sings with a great tone just like Joni Mitchell.
It was special to see them all again on arrival in Buenos Aires and great to be back there too. Everything went smoothly in rehearsal and we all played together as if we had been working with each other for a long time. It was the first time I had played Can-Utility for a live show in over forty years. This also gave me a head start for the upcoming Autumn shows.
The first show with those talented musicians at the Teatro Coliseo had a magical atmosphere and the Buenos Aires crowd was as enthusiastic as ever. I enjoyed every minute. Looking forward to the second show.
Many thanks too from Jo and me to Tano, Jota Castano, Ben Fenner and all the Genetics guys for all their wonderful hospitality.

Meridian

This album is perfect. Absolutely absurd shredding and technicality blended with beautiful melodies and a strong dose of badass riffage. I find myself involuntarily head banging every time I listen. The most common complaints with technical/djent-y music – sounding overly frantic or having boring, seemingly mindless riffs – are notably absent here. They never linger on an idea too long and there is no filler. Ever single part of this album is essential and a pleasure to listen to. Kevin G
