Dr. Kirk Harum is the founding member of Crystal Coast Pain Management. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. After graduating from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1987, he completed his residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He then spent four years as an attending anesthesiologist for the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune. While at Camp Lejeune, Dr. Harum served as the ship’s anesthesiologist for the USS John F. Kennedy. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal in 1991 and the Navy Commendation Medal in 1995. Dr. Harum then went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he completed his fellowship training in Anesthesiology/Pain Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Harum served as the Director of the Pain Clinic at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center. He is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Spinal Intervention Society, and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. He opened Crystal Coast Pain Management in 2004 where he has been serving Eastern North Carolina for nearly fifteen years.

Dr. Angelo A. Tellis obtained his Doctor of Medicine (M.D) degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency training at the Medical College of Virginia. He has board certification both in Pain Management and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He attended Marshall University for his undergraduate degree on a full academic scholarship as a member of The Society of Yeager Scholars and gained experience from studies abroad at Oxford University (Christ Church Campus) and at an international college in Cannes, France. He graduated summa cum laude with a major in psychology and pre-medical curriculum. He has furthermore received national and international post-graduate training in the emerging field of Regenerative Medicine, with an emphasis on orthopedic and cosmetic procedures. He has worked with leading experts in the field and his specialized skill set includes PRP and stem cell treatments with fluoroscopic guidance. He has been practicing medicine in North Carolina since 1999, and is privileged to be the first physician to introduce these powerful new techniques to Eastern, NC. Dr. Tellis is a native of Charleston, SC and is married to his wife Sarah, who is the CEO of a Christian nonprofit organization to stop human trafficking called True Justice International. They have three wonderful children, the youngest of whom they adopted from China. He has participated in medical mission trips to Greece, India, and Africa. Dr. Tellis has both Greek and Italian heritage with his family in Greece coming from the island of Chios in the Aegean Sea.

Dr. Zachary Kitchen has had a diverse life to say the least. The third son of ten children in a poor farming family, he found that there was no money for college so at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. A year later he earned an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he graduated with a B.S. in English Literature. He attended flight school after graduation and flew for the Navy for five years as an NFO or “goose” (as the position has been known since the film “Top Gun”). After fulfilling his active duty obligation, Dr. Kitchen received a Navy scholarship to attend medical school and graduated from the University of Michigan School of Medicine in 2000. He trained at the Walter Reed Medical Center and the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center for internship, residency, and fellowship. His training completed, Dr. Kitchen deployed to Iraq with a Forward Resuscitative Surgical System team. Often under fire, he gave surgical and resuscitative treatment to American military, allied military, civilians, and enemy combatants alike. He holds the Combat Medic Badge from the Army and the Combat Action Ribbon from the Marines. During his time in the service, Dr. Kitchen also served as the director of the pain management clinic and then director of pain medicine for the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Returning home, Dr. Kitchen then joined a small private practice in the sleepy coastal town of New Bern, North Carolina and has been a member of the Crystal Coast Pain Management family since 2009. In his spare time he writes and has three novels published. They are available on Amazon.

Dr. Debra McCutcheon is board certified in anesthesiologist and interventional pain medicine. She joined the team at Crystal Coast Pain Medicine in 2013. She obtained her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2007. Dr. McCutcheon then went on to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where she completed her residency in anesthesiology. She then continued at Wake Forest to earn fellowships in regional anesthesia, acute pain management, and in chronic pain management. Additionally she has a bachelor of science in business administration from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a member of the American Board of Anesthesiology, North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia, North American Neuromodulation Society, and the Pain Society of the Carolinas. She has served as a speaker with the Lazarus Project to help promote responsible prescribing habits and educate other providers on prevention of opioid misuse, abuse, and diversion. She has a special interest in ultrasound guided techniques, stem cell therapy and spinal cord stimulation. She is a North Carolina native and enjoys living on the Bogue Sound in Carteret County with her husband and three children.

Dr. Courtney Auman is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. She graduated with Highest Honors from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Public Health and went on to complete her medical doctorate at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Auman completed a four-year Anesthesiology residency at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC and was appointed Chief Resident during her final year. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Wake Forest and Carolina’s Pain Institute. Dr. Auman is a member of the American Board of Anesthesiology, North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, North Carolina Medical Society, and the Pain Society of the Carolinas. A North Carolina native and enthusiastic Tar Heel fan, Dr. Auman lives in Carteret County with her husband and three children.

Kerstin Mosso has been practicing as a pain management physician assistant since graduating from Lock Haven University with her Master’s degree in health sciences in 2015. Prior to becoming a physician assistant, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Modern Foreign Language with a minor in Biology at James Madison University in 2012. Kerstin is currently board certified, state licensed, and holds current membership with The Pain Society of the Carolinas. Mrs. Mosso is also trained to perform Botox injections to treat chronic migraines. She grew up in Pennsylvania and now resides in New Bern with her husband.

Jessica Lanier was born and raised in Northern Indiana. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She then pursued her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Upon completion of her nursing degree, she obtained a position at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, North Carolina prior to pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has completed a course in Complete Botox Training through Empire Medical Training. She lives in Eastern North Carolina with her husband and two children, and enjoys spending time with them at the beach. Jessica looks forward to the opportunity to help patients with all of their pain management needs.

Jennifer Ard is a graduate of the Georgetown University Family Nurse Practitioner program where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of North Florida. She also received a BA in Psychology from the University of Miami. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Jennifer worked as a nurse in the intensive care unit, cardiology, post-anesthesia care, and outpatient surgery. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

April Thomas started her career as an Athletic Trainer after graduating from Merrimack College in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine. She also earned a Master’s Degree from Springfield College in Exercise Science and sports studies in 2005. She has worked with athletes from the high school level to Division I collegiate athletics attending to acute athletic injures while guiding their recovery. She moved on to work in a non-surgical orthopedics office where she was exposed to variety of patients. April worked at this time with patients who suffered acute injures and with chronic pain patients. She has 6 years of experience working closely with regenerative medicine physicians assisting with platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapies. Following her experiences with regenerative medicine she went on to obtain her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Springfield College becoming a Certified Physician Assistant in 2018. She uses all aspects of her 19-year career in sports medicine to treat chronic pain and guide treatment plans.

Colleen Kelly is a graduate of the East Carolina University Physician Assistant program where she earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She also attended ECU as an undergraduate obtaining her Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2003. While at ECU, Colleen also competed as an NCAA athlete on the Track and Field team where she won several conference championships in the high jump. After teaching for 2 years, she joined the North Carolina Army National Guard as a Combat Medic where she continues to serve. With one deployment to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Colleen continues to serve in the National Guard and will have 14 years of service in February 2020. Colleen is board certified; state licensed, and holds current membership with The Pain Society of the Carolinas. Her background includes 12 years of Emergency Medical Services as an EMT-Basic, then EMT-Intermediate, and finally as an EMT-Paramedic. Colleen is local to Eastern North Carolina, growing up in Jacksonville, NC. She currently resides in Holly Ridge with her husband of 11 years and two children and enjoys spending time with them with their local church, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and swim team. Colleen is excited to have joined the team at Crystal Coast Pain Management and assisting her patients with their pain management needs.

Rachel Bennett joined Crystal Coast Pain Management in 2020 and is a nationally certified physician assistant by the NCCPA. She has more than 7 years of experience in pain management. She received her Bachelors of Science in Applied Health Science from Wheaton College (IL) and her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Kentucky. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Pain Society of the Carolinas. She is also trained to perform Botox injections for chronic migraines as well as trigger point injections. .
